Ezekiel 16:34

הפך - to invert, reverse
And he is becoming within yourself an inverting one from out of the Mortal Women within your acts of harlotry, and he was not prostituted behind yourself,13 and within your giving a gift, and a gift has not been given to yourself, and you are becoming to an inverted one.

Footnote:

Eze. 16:34

זוּנה is usually feminine "prostitute" but here it the verb in the Pual. As a Pual, this carries a passive intensive sense.

לֹא זָנָה (Qal perfect 3rd masculine singular) is the form you would use to convey:

“he did not engage in prostitution” or more idiomatically, “he did not womanize / commit sexual immorality.”

  • Qal perfect 3ms = active male subject performing the action.

  • לֹא negates the action.

By contrast:

  • לֹא זוּנה (Pual perfect 3ms) = “he was not prostituted / he did not undergo being prostituted” — passive meaning.

  • זוֹנָה (participle f.s.) = “she is not a prostitute.”
