παραβολαῖς - juxtaposition, comparison, moving side by side, a placing beside

παραβολή = παρά + βολή
παρά — “beside,” “alongside,” “in comparison with”
βολή — from βάλλω, “to throw” → noun meaning “a throw,” “a cast,” or “that which is thrown”
So literally:
παραβολή = a placing or throwing beside (something)
