Footnotes

Jon. 1:3
Jon. 1:3

The Hebrew word יפו (yafo) means "they are beautiful." This derives from the adjective יָפֶה (yafeh, Strong's #3302)

Cf. Song of Songs 4:10, "מה יפו דדיך" meaning "how they are beautiful, the uncles/beloveds of yourself..."

Also Song of Songs 7:1, "מה יפו פעמיך" meaning "How beautiful they are, the steps of yourself within sandals..."

Alternatively, יפוֹ is also the Hebrew name for the ancient port city of Jaffa (Strong's #3305), which appears frequently in historical and Biblical texts.
