Footnotes

Exo. 3:12

The Hebrew construct הוציאך is derived from the verb הוציא (hotzi), which comes from the root יצא (yatzah), meaning "to go out." It is in the Hif'il (causative) complete form, third person masculine singular in the past tense, meaning "he brought out" or "he caused to go out." When combined with the suffix ךָ (-kha), meaning "you" (masculine singular), the phrase translates to "He brought you out" or "He caused you to go out."

To this is prefixed with ב (be), the meaning depends on the context, but it typically indicates "when," "as," "in," or "within" and is often part of a construct that modifies the verb’s action. When prefixed to a verb, ב often carries a temporal sense implying that the action is taking place at a specific time or condition. In some cases, ב introduces a condition or dependency on another action. In some cases, ב can indicate the means or instrument by which the action is performed.
