RBT Translation:
When I should send Gift of Artemis ("Artemas") toward yourself, or Fortunate Target Hitter ("Tychicus"),5 be speedy to come in toward myself, into Victorious City ("Nicopolis"), for there I have decided to spend winter.
Julia Smith Literal 1876 Translation:
When I shall send Artemas to thee, or Tychicus, be earnest to come to me at Nicopolis: for there have I chosen to pass the winter.
LITV Translation:
When I shall send Artemas to you or Tychicus, hasten to come to me at Nicopolis. For I have decided to winter there.

The name Τυχικόν is etymologically related to τύχη, meaning “the good which man obtains (τυγχάνει) by the favour of the gods, good fortune, luck, success” which itself comes from the verb τυγχάνω, “to hit, to strike, to happen upon.”

  • τυγχάνω originally has the absolute sense of “to hit one’s mark, make good one’s aim, get one’s blow or thrust home ” or “gain oneʼs end or purpose, succeed

In other words, the root implies “hitting the target,” whether literally or figuratively, and by extension fortune or success.
