Τὸ δὲ πλοῖον ἤδη μέσον τῆς θαλάσσης ἦν, βασανιζόμενον ὑπὸ τῶν κυμάτων· ἦν γὰρ ἐναντίος ὁ ἄνεμος.

RBT Translation:

ἐναντίος - in anti, opposite

And the Ship already many stadium-tracks away from the Earth, was holding back from that which is being touchstone-tormented below the Waves, for the Wind was opposed/adverse.

And the ship was already in the midst of the sea, overcharged by waves: for the wind was contrary.

But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
