Ἀνὴρ δέ τις ὀνόματι Σίμων προϋπῆρχεν ἐν τῇ πόλει μαγεύων καὶ ἐξιστῶν τὸ ἔθνος τῆς Σαμαρείας, λέγων εἶναί τινα ἑαυτὸν μέγαν·

μαγεύων mageuōn - he who is being a Magi, Skilled in Magic

And a certain man by a name of Hearing ("Simon") was existing prior within the City, he who is being a Magus, and he who is throwing out of place/joint the Company of People of the Guard Tower, he who is speaking his own self to be a certain mega one.

And a certain man, Simon by name, was before in the city using magic, and astonishing the nation of Samaria, saying himself to be somebody great:

But a certain man named Simon had long been conjuring in the city and amazing the nation of Samaria, claiming himself to be some great one.
