Acts 7:7
Καὶ τὸ ἔθνος, ᾧ ἐὰν δουλεύσωσι, κρινῶ ἐγώ, εἶπεν ὁ Θεός· καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐξελεύσονται, καὶ λατρεύσουσί μοι ἐν τῷ τόπῳ τούτῳ.

And the Group of People, whichever one25 they will be enslaved to, I, myself will separate, the God said. And beyond these things they will go out and will work for hire to myself, within the Place/Position, this one.Julia Smith Literal 1876 Translation:
And the nation which they serve will I judge, said God: and after these shall they go out, and shall serve me in this place.
And the nation which they serve will I judge, said God: and after these shall they go out, and shall serve me in this place.
LITV Translation:
And God said, I will judge the nation to which you will be in bondage." And, After these things they will come out and will serve Me in this place. Gen. 15:14; Ex. 3:12
And God said, I will judge the nation to which you will be in bondage." And, After these things they will come out and will serve Me in this place. Gen. 15:14; Ex. 3:12
Footnotes
25 | In Koine Greek, ᾧ ἐὰν + subjunctive functions like an “open” or indefinite relative. It doesn’t specify a particular noun; instead, it expresses a variable or contingent case:
Together, ᾧ ἐὰν δουλεύσωσι literally means “to whichever [one] they may serve,” allowing for any possible nation — a kind of Greek equivalent of a “variable placeholder” in logic or algebra. It’s very common in contexts expressing uncertainty, conditionality, or generality. |
