Acts 12:4

ὃν καὶ πιάσας ἔθετο εἰς φυλακήν, παραδοὺς τέσσαρσι τετραδίοις στρατιωτῶν φυλάσσειν αὐτόν, βουλόμενος μετὰ τὸ Πάσχα ἀναγαγεῖν αὐτὸν τῷ λαῷ.

And him who, he who has squeezed, set into a prison-watching, he who has handed over to four quaternions of soldiers to keep watch over himself, he who is willing to lead up himself to the People beyond the Pass Over .

"Four Living Beings"

τετράδιον - A quaternion is simply a group of four, the neutral numerical collective denoting any set, squad, or unit consisting of four members; in Greek texts the equivalent term is τετράς (and derivatives such as τετραδίον or τετραδία in some dialectal or technical contexts). The word in English later gained a specialized mathematical sense, but its basic lexical value remains “a four-fold unit” or “a foursome.”

Julia Smith Literal 1876 Translation:
And having seized, he put him in prison, having delivered to four quaternions of soldiers to watch him; wishing after the pascha to bring him to the people.

LITV Translation:
whom also capturing him , he put him into prison, delivering him to four sets of four soldiers to guard him, intending to bring him up to the people after the Passover.
